  • MCYS to build 10 Family Services Centres over the next three years 
    The MCYS will provide Family Service Centres (FSCs) more resources and work with the sector to enhance its capability. Starting April 2012, each FSC will receive funding to hire an additional social service professional to improve the FSC's outreach to vulnerable families and collaboration with other community touch points. MCYS also plans to build up to 10 more full-fledged and branch FSCs over the next three years to enhance the accessibility of family service.
  • MFA issues travel advisory for the Maldives 
    The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises Singaporeans to defer all non-essential travel to the Maldives for the time being with reports of unrest, demonstrations and an uncertain security situation in Male, the capital, and some of the outlying islands. Singaporeans already in the Maldives are advised to avoid rally areas, take all necessary precautions for their personal safety and monitor closely developments on the ground through the local media and through their hosts/contacts there.
  • Singapore Customs launches dedicated institute 
    The Singapore Customs has launched Singapore's first dedicated institution to raise capabilities in Customs administration and Customs matters. Targeted at businesses, the Singapore Customs Academy will conduct courses in a modular format and provide 24/7 access to information via an online portal.

  • Singapore signs MOU with US on education  
    Minister for Education Mr Heng Swee Keat and the US Secretary of Education signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance collaboration in education. The three key areas of collaboration are teaching and learning of Mathematics and Sciences, teacher development and school leadership, and education research and benchmarking studies. This MOU builds on the first US-Singapore MOU on education signed in 2002.

  • Overall crime fell by 5.3% in 2011 
    Overall crime reported in 2011 fell by 5.3% as compared to 2010. Four of the six crime classes registered significant percentage decreases, with improvements seen in the crime classes of Violent Property Crimes, Housebreaking and Related Crimes, Theft and Related Crimes, and Crimes Against Persons.
