Grocery shoppers in supermarkets. Pharmacy assistants in a hospital. Kitchen staff in fast food outlets. Delivery riders or drivers.

Despite Covid-19 and its economic toll, companies in Singapore – especially those who are seeing an increased demand for the products and services they offer – are hiring.

You can find some of these jobs at the SGUnited Jobs Virtual Career Fair, which is currently featuring up to 1,600 operational roles from companies like NTUC Fairprice and Singapore General Hospital.

Some of these roles do not require prior experience and are suitable for those who are on the hunt for an interim source of income.

When asked for advice on how temp jobs would be useful, a spokesperson from Workforce Singapore (WSG) said, “Temp jobs are useful not just to have a source of income, but also as opportunities to continue to be productive and actively engaged in the workforce and learn new skills while searching for more permanent positions or jobs that are better aligned with one’s interest and career plans.

“Doing so also provides jobseekers with networking opportunities, which are very useful in opening doors to potential new careers. For instance, a jobseeker managed to clinch a full-time job after meeting a potential employer at a seminar where they worked as an Event Assistant.”

The SGUnited Jobs Virtual Career Fair for Operational Roles will end on 31 May 2020.

This is part of WSG’s thematic Virtual Career Fairs to showcase both short-term, temporary positions under SGUnited Jobs as well as other permanent roles to make it easier for jobseekers to browse and apply.

The SGUnited Jobs Initiative was launched by WSG and Ministry of Manpower (MOM), in collaboration with the Public Service Division (PSD) and private sector companies on 26 Mar 2020.

It helps jobseekers to identify and apply for short-term jobs to handle COVID-related operations, as well as longer-term jobs created or for which hiring has been brought forward in the Public Service and publicly funded sectors.

As announced by Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat during the Fortitude Budget, the SGUnited Jobs initiative will be scaled up to provide Singaporeans and Permanent Residents more than 40,000 jobs in 2020.
