Three reasons why we need to expand our airport infrastructure
1 March 2018
Capacity, good jobs and more travel choices with airport expansion.

Here are three reasons why we need to expand our current airport infrastructure.
1. Capture growth in air travel demand
The International Air Transport Association projects that post-COVID air passenger volume will double by 2040, and Asia-Pacific will be the key engine of this increase. Changi Airport Terminal 5 is needed to increase Changi’s capacity to meet air travel demand in the longer term. When operational in the mid-2030s, T5 will be able to handle about 50 million passengers a year, on top of Changi Airport’s current capacity of 90 million.
2. More jobs for Singaporeans
More good jobs will be created at Changi Airport. We can also expect growth in tourism, trade, and investments, which would translate to more good jobs for Singaporeans in other sectors of our economy.
3. More travel destinations
With an expanded capacity, travellers can enjoy a greater choice of airlines, flight frequencies and destinations at competitive airfares. This benefits Singaporeans, tourists and businesses.
