'' The Merdeka Generation Package is a gesture of our nation’s gratitude for (the Merdeka Generation’s) contributions and a way to show care of them in their silver years. It will provide them better peace of mind over future healthcare costs, while helping them to stay active and healthy. ''
- DPM Heng Swee Keat during his Budget Statement on 18 February 2019

Seniors can also apply for ElderFund from 2020 to receive monthly cash payouts, if they are severely disabled and need financial help.

If they still have difficulty affording medical bills, MediFund will provide discretionary financial assistance.

'' We want all Singaporeans to have access to affordable, high quality healthcare. No one should be denied medical care because they cannot afford it and that is my commitment to you. ''
- PM Lee Hsien Loong at his National Day Rally on 19 August 2018
