For Friends - How to Help Your Friend Quit Vaping
Be a P.E.E.R and support your friend to stop vaping.
It can feel tricky when someone you care about is vaping. You may wonder what you could do to help while maintaining good relationships with your friend. Here are some steps you can take:
P – Provide non-judgmental listening and understanding
Hear them out. Ask why they vape. Show care, not judgement.
E – Encourage open conversation about vaping concerns
Share your concern. Point out the health risks and consequence if caught. Suggest talking to a trusted adult (parents, teachers, counsellors).
E – Empower with healthy alternatives
Suggest fun substitutes: Sports, new hobbies, healthy snacks. Try them together. Remind them that slip-ups are normal, but don’t give up.
R – Refer to a trusted adult or professional help
Offer to go with them to talk to an adult. Share about the QuitVape Programme: Safe, no penalties, no offence record.
In schools and Institutes of Higher Learning, teachers, counsellors and staff are here to help. Find out more below.
