We cannot wait until we run out of space. We must create new options for future generations. So, they too will have room to grow, while preserving what is precious about Singapore.— Lawrence Wong, Prime Minister and Minister for Finance
At National Day Rally (NDR) 2026, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced that the Government will transform our outer islands to create new opportunities and meet future needs.
What Does This Mean for You?
For All Singaporeans
Several smaller islands around Jurong Island will be connected to form a new western island to support new industries such as advanced manufacturing, new power generation infrastructure and our defence needs.
There will be a second road link from the mainland to Jurong Island, as well as a new link connecting Jurong Island to the new western islandSentosa’s beaches and waterfronts will be refreshed, bringing Singaporeans closer to nature with access to the western coastline.
Pulau Brani will be transformed with new attractions and experiences, including NTUC’s new Downtown South resort.
Sentosa and Pulau Brani will be better connected and form an integrated destination to offer more experiences for Singaporeans and visitors.
The island will be connected to the mainland through transport links with a new people mover system to provide more capacity and more ways to get around. A water taxi service will also be explored. Pulau Tekong will be expanded to give us more options for the future, including undersea tunnels to improve access.
